“Planes, Trains, and Automobiles,” starring Steve Martin and John Candy is our all-time favorite comedy.
Steve Martin is a formerly educated left-brained square-John who has no idea how to make it outside of the bubbled world he lives in. He has a white-collar job, a wife and family, and lives in a highline suburb in Chicago. He is a neat-freak, a germaphobe, and can’t stand or relate to the average Jane or Joe.
John Candy is a street-educated right-brained salesman who is always trying to close the sale. He is a slob, doesn’t understand what anyone above workingclass thinks, and can’t relate to someone with a home or polished shoes. A traveling salesman, that all he does: travel and sale. He has no home.
The opposites get entangled and they’re stuck trying to get across country together.
Unforgettable lines. The scene with the two of them in bed together is a cult classic, among B-movie fans.
