World Naked Gardening Day

World Naked Gardening Day (WNGD) is an annual international event celebrated on the first Saturday of May by gardeners and non-gardeners alike. According to NBC’s Today News, WNGD “has become an annual tradition that celebrates weeding, planting flowers and trimming hedges in the buff. While it’s linked to a movement of nudists who promote wholesome and unashamed acceptance of the human body, the day is meant to be funny, lighthearted and non-political, founders say.”[…]

Walt Whitman is also known to have written about his naked experiences in nature. In Specimen Day he wrote: “Sweet, sane, still Nakedness in Nature! –ah if poor, sick, prurient humanity in cities might really know you once more! Is not nakedness then indecent? No, not inherently. It is your thought, your sophistication, your fear, your respectability that is indecent. There come moods when these clothes of ours are not only too irksome to wear, but are themselves indecent. Perhaps indeed he or she to whom the free exhilarating ecstasy of nakedness in Nature has never been eligible (and how many thousands there are!) has not really known what purity is–nor what faith or art or health really is.”

Today – new naked gardening series on

For Tuesday on Southern Charms, I’ve prepared the following.

World Naked Gardening Day (WNGD): 136 All Natural Garden Gloves Pics

Went to the farmers’ market. Looking for flowers to buy. I’ve read somewhere that lavender gives second thoughts to random cats crossing my garden. Not sure when it was the other time when I’ve spent so much on flowers. All at once.
Lavender, rosemary and basil. I wished to buy so many more!! A frenzy. But I must always consider the budget. Even if flowers and gardening make for my favorite pastime.

And because I love magnolia, and because I long for a new one, I bought one! Would have been a pity to leave it there especially after hearing the discounted price.
This won’t make pink flowers but yellow ones!! Next spring will tell.
Long talk short, excited by the chill in the air, I’m running with my new magnolia, to plant it before the clouds will start raining.

Enjoy World Naked Gardening Day.

If you cannot wait till Tuesday, have a peep at the new naked gardening series on

Wearing only gloves and sneakers when gardening.

Happy Gardening!!

  3. it seems there is a good weather in your country, during all the entire year, you are always naked! ouch!

    1. Better weather in the South of my country. Still there are months when I have to gather so much courage to get naked outdoors.
At times, I posed as it snowed. Had to move really quickly. πŸ™‚
